LOWCOUNTRY FRIENDS OF OLD TIME MUSIC JAM SESSION TOMORROW, AND LFOOTM JAM SESSION AT CHARLESTON BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL SATURDAY 12 NOON, MARCH 31 AT AWENDAW GREEN
NEXT JAM SESSION TOMORROW: March 20th, 7 - 9 PM at Hungry Monk Muisc, 1948 Belgrade Ave, Charleston SC 29407
We meet for a Jam Session every First and Third Tuesday of the month at Hungry Monk Music.
This is an open session for typical Old Time String Band instruments such as fiddle, open-back banjo played clawhammer style, guitar, mandolin, and double bass. Acoustic instruments only, no amps or drums. The tunes we play are mostly but not always instrumental, rarely with vocals, and played in unison. The style of music is pre-bluegrass, and sometimes known as "Mountain Music." It is the music that evolved out of British Isles, Scotts-Irish and African influences in the Southern Mountains and rural areas of America before there was radio and recorded music. This music was played for country dances, and on porches, in homes, and outdoors under the trees, for the entertainment of the players and for whoever wanted to dance or listen.
We sit in a circle and take turns calling the next tune to be played, sometimes using a list of familiar tunes for a reminder; or not, if somebody has a tune to offer that is not on the list.

Whether you play Old Time tunes, want to learn, or are just curious, you are invited to come and join us.
Hungry Monk Music has invited LFOOTM to host an Old Time String Band Jam Session on the Hungry Monk Fire Ant Fiddle Contest Stage at the Charleston Bluegrass Festival on Saturday March 31st from 12 Noon to 1 PM.
For details see:
Hopefully at least several people who attend the regular LFOOTM Jam sessions will want to go and put on a "demonstration" of how an Old Time String Band Jam Session works; and maybe enter the Fire Ant Fiddle Contest. We will have to pay our way in to the Bluegrass Festival at least for a Saturday day ticket and can of course enjoy all the other entertainment. So, come on down to the "Demonstration" and get your Fair Share of Abuse ( as suggested by Mick and Keith). If you plan to attend, please RSVP to Rick Hamrick or let me know when you see me.
